Johnson & Johnson's prostate cancer drug Erleada, used with hormone-blocking therapy, reduces the risk of cancer spread and death, according to late-stage trial data.
Patients who received the combination were nine times more likely to have little to no detectable cancer at surgery.
The regimen also cut the risk of cancer spread or death by 20%.
The findings could change treatment for high-risk localized prostate cancer, where standard care is surgery or radiation.
Nearly half of patients currently see their cancer return after standard treatment.
