Samsung Electronics has urged its South Korean labor union to resume pay talks after government-mediated negotiations broke down, a union leader said on Thursday.
The union has threatened an 18-day strike starting May 21 unless its demands for bonus system reforms are met.
Finance Minister Koo Yun-cheol warned that a strike would be a significant risk to South Korea's economy, which relies heavily on chip exports.
JPMorgan estimated potential operating profit losses of 21-31 trillion won ($14-21 billion) for Samsung.
