Eleven people have died in a chemical tank rupture at a Washington state paper mill. All bodies have been recovered, authorities said Saturday.
The accident occurred Tuesday at a Nippon Dynawave Packaging facility. The tank contained "white liquor," a mix of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfide used in papermaking.
Two deaths were confirmed initially, then nine missing workers were found dead. Search crews used drones and cleared debris throughout the week.
The tank held about 900,000 gallons (3.4 million liters) of white liquor. Contamination entered the Columbia River but air and drinking water remain safe.
Nippon Paper Industries acquired the plant in 2016 for $225 million.
