WASHINGTON, May 21 - The Trump administration intends to delay compliance with two Biden-era rules on refrigerants as part of a broader effort to unwind the former president's environmental agenda, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said on Thursday.
The actions would affect grocers, semiconductor manufacturers and other companies that use hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), potent greenhouse gases used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
Zeldin said easing the restrictions would reduce costs for consumers, estimating potential savings of more than $2.4 billion.
However, the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute criticized the rollback, saying it would raise prices by reducing the supply of existing refrigerants.
