Chinese tech giant Alibaba has unveiled a new AI chip, the Zhenwu M890, as it intensifies efforts to develop domestic alternatives to Nvidia processors amid tightening U.S. export curbs.
Developed by Alibaba's semiconductor design subsidiary T-Head, the chip delivers three times the performance of its predecessor, the Zhenwu 810E. It is purpose-built for AI agents—software systems that perform complex tasks with minimal human oversight.
Alibaba also outlined a multi-year chip roadmap, planning to release the V900 in Q3 2027 and the J900 in Q3 2028. The company pledged to invest over 380 billion yuan ($53 billion) in cloud and AI infrastructure over three years.
The chip was unveiled at the annual Alibaba Cloud Summit, alongside the Panjiu AL128 server system. T-Head has shipped more than 560,000 Zhenwu units to date.
Alibaba also announced Qwen 3.7-Max, the latest version of its large language model, capable of operating continuously for up to 35 hours.
