The U.S. and Iran are close to signing a deal that includes a 60-day ceasefire extension, during which the Strait of Hormuz would reopen, Axios reported, citing a U.S. official.
Under the proposed agreement, Iran would clear mines from the strait to allow free passage. In return, the U.S. would lift its blockade on Iranian ports and issue sanctions waivers for oil sales.
Iran would also commit to never pursue nuclear weapons and negotiate on suspending uranium enrichment and removing its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
Two sources told Axios that Iran gave verbal commitments through mediators. The White House has not commented yet.
