Muharram month has started in Azerbaijan since June 16.
This month holds special significance in the Islamic world as the first month of the Hijri lunar calendar and is observed as a mourning period for Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions who were martyred in Karbala.
The most important day of Muharram, Ashura, will fall on June 25. On that day, the 10th of Muharram in the Hijri calendar, Imam Hussein (AS) attained martyrdom in the plains of Karbala, and it is commemorated with grief and sorrow.
It is noteworthy that in 2026, the month of Muharram will end on July 14.
