U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC), a subsidiary of Altria Group, announced plans to close its Nashville, Tennessee manufacturing facility and move operations to Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Production will wind down gradually, with operations expected to conclude in early 2028. The Nashville plant has been operating for over 100 years and employs more than 300 people.
The company will build a new 270,000-square-foot facility on its existing Hopkinsville campus to replace the 800,000-square-foot Nashville plant.
Michael Brace, President and CEO of USSTC, said the move is essential for long-term success in an evolving market.
Nashville employees will be encouraged to apply for positions in Hopkinsville and Richmond, Virginia. Those not relocating will receive severance packages.
Altria shares have returned 32% over the past year, with a market capitalization of $123 billion.
