China Yuchai International Limited (NYSE:CYD) announced that commercial minibuses equipped with its YCY24-65kW Flywheel Range Extender System have been launched by Wisdom Motor in Hong Kong.
The system integrates a flywheel with an engine crankshaft through a rigid coaxial configuration, combining the engine and alternator into a single unit. It operates on a dual fuel electric replenishment mode that eliminates the need for fixed charging infrastructure.
The company states the system enables fuel savings of up to 50% in congested urban traffic compared to conventional vehicles. The engine generates power under consistent operating conditions and is compatible with small-displacement vehicle models.
China Yuchai International operates through its main subsidiary Guangxi Yuchai Machinery Company Limited. The company manufactures powertrains for trucks, buses, construction equipment, and marine applications in China. The company's stock has surged 231% over the past year, trading at $55.66 with a market capitalization of $2.09 billion.
Weng Ming Hoh, President of China Yuchai International, said the deployment "marks a significant step forward in advancing next-generation, new-energy powertrain technologies and strengthening collaboration across the industrial chain to deliver sustainable powertrain solutions to domestic and global markets."
The system features regenerative braking and qualifies for road access reserved for new energy vehicles in Hong Kong. Founded in 1951, Yuchai sold 461,309 engines in 2025 and reported total revenue of RMB 24.6 billion.
