Ahead of the parliamentary elections in Armenia, an interesting trend has been observed. Topics related to Azerbaijan were discussed more than the country's socio-economic problems, demographic situation, migration, unemployment, and other internal issues.
Deputy Vugar Iskandarov stated to Oxu.Az that during debates, rallies, and political speeches, Azerbaijan's name was constantly mentioned, with discussions centered on President Ilham Aliyev's position and policies.
Today, Azerbaijan is the main country determining the political agenda of the South Caucasus. No project, security initiative, or political process in the region can succeed without considering Azerbaijan's interests.
Azerbaijan's expectation regarding the election is not to interfere in Armenia's internal political processes. The Armenian people must make their own choice. However, this is not just about forming a new government; it is about Armenia's future course.
The main agenda of the region is peace. Azerbaijan is the initiator and architect of the peace process. Armenian voters are essentially choosing between two different paths: on one side, cooperation, stability, and peace; on the other, war rhetoric, revanchist calls, and attempts to return to the past.
If Armenia truly claims to want peace, it must demonstrate this not only in statements but in the elections. Otherwise, becoming a tool of foreign centers and supporting a new confrontation agenda will be the choice of Armenian society.
During the election campaign, the Karabakh issue has again become one of the main political tools. Various revanchist groups are trying to bring this topic back to the agenda. Similar processes are observed abroad.
For Azerbaijan, the main issue is not Armenia's internal political order. The expectation is simple: any territorial claims against our country must be removed from legal documents. The most reliable way is through new constitutional changes.
In this election, Armenian voters are not only forming a parliament but also determining their country's future course of peace or confrontation. One of the key steps demonstrating sincerity in the peace process is the complete dissolution of the so-called "Karabakh representations."
If the Armenian leadership truly declares that the conflict page is closed, it must ensure that similar structures operating in France, the USA, Russia, and other countries cease their activities.
Against the backdrop of the election, accusations of using administrative resources, pressure, and vote buying have been voiced. Both the West and Russia are trying to influence the electoral process. However, international organizations remain silent on these issues.
The election in Armenia is not just a struggle for power but a political stage that will determine the country's future strategic course. The main choice facing Armenian society is: peace and cooperation, or revanchism and attempts to return to the past.
