Recent heavy rainfall in Azerbaijan and worldwide has sparked claims that precipitation is being artificially controlled.
Foreign media report significant climate changes after the Iran-US-Israel conflict. Allegedly, Iran disabled Israel's climate control centers, leading to increased rainfall globally.
Experts cite the US "Operation Popeye" during the Vietnam War, where cloud seeding with silver iodide extended monsoon rains to disrupt enemy logistics.
Now, similar technologies are allegedly being used to block rainfall over certain areas. How much truth is there to these claims?
Ecologist Sadig Hasanov told Oxu.Az that artificial rain technology has existed for decades, but preventing rain is implausible:
"Cloud seeding has been relevant for over 30 years. Saudi Arabia spent billions on greening deserts. However, controlling clouds to stop rain is not feasible; no such technology exists. The current rainfall is due to climate change. In 2025, floods increased from 15 to 80 on average, and temperatures rose by 1.5-2°C."
