Australia stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Gold, Metals & Mining and Materials sectors led shares lower.

Bond.az - At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 1.43%.

The best performers: Centuria Capital Ltd (ASX:CNI) rose 5.82%, James Hardie Industries PLC (ASX:JHX) added 4.27%, Sims Metal Management Ltd (ASX:SGM) was up 3.47%.

The worst performers: Genesis Minerals Ltd (ASX:GMD) fell 9.68%, Perseus Mining Ltd (ASX:PRU) declined 9.29%, AP Eagers Ltd (ASX:APE) was down 8.44%.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 796 to 348, and 405 ended unchanged.

Sims Metal Management rose to 5-year highs. Gold futures fell 1.60%, while crude oil rose 2.97%.
