The Australian government has launched legal action against 3M over contamination from firefighting foam containing PFAS, seeking more than A$2 billion ($1.43 billion) in damages.
Attorney-General Michelle Rowland called the lawsuit significant, reflecting the environmental and economic costs of contamination.
The government alleges 3M withheld testing showing adverse environmental effects.
3M said it would defend itself, noting it stopped selling the products in Australia two decades ago.
