China's largest car exporter, Chery, is considering entering the US market at a suitable time, an executive said on Wednesday.
Zhang Guibing, president of Chery International, did not give a timeframe.
US President Donald Trump has signalled openness to Chinese automakers if they build vehicles in the US, but industry groups urge caution.
'When we find a good and suitable time, we definitely hope to enter,' Zhang said.
Chery currently focuses on Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
The US imposes 100% tariffs on Chinese-made EVs and restricts connected-car technology.
Chery has not yet added the US to its export destinations.
