A U.S. District Court has denied the California Department of Parks and Recreation's request to halt oil producer Sable Offshore Corp from using a disputed pipeline connected to the Santa Ynez offshore platform.
The decision is a setback for California's efforts to stop the Santa Ynez project, which Sable restarted in March after federal intervention. Sable's shares rose nearly 12% following the ruling.
The parks department sought a preliminary injunction, claiming irreparable harm from the pipeline section under Gaviota State Park. However, the court found that the department failed to demonstrate such harm.
California State Parks expressed disappointment and vowed to continue challenging Sable's use of public land.
