Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian defended the carrier’s choice of Amazon over SpaceX’s Starlink for in-flight Wi-Fi, citing lower costs and extra tech services.
"Amazon brings more than just satellite technology," Bastian told Bloomberg. "They offer retail capability, Amazon Prime, and video gaming technologies that Starlink lacks."
Bastian noted Amazon provides better bandwidth at a lower price. Elon Musk criticized Delta’s decision on X last week.
Starlink operates about 10,000 satellites and has deals with Emirates, Lufthansa, British Airways, and United Airlines.
Delta announced an agreement with Amazon in March to install its Leo internet service on 500 aircraft starting in 2028.
