Bond.az reports that FEMSA's payments unit NetPay has launched a digital payment system for gas stations in Mexico, as the government pushes for a cashless shift.
President Claudia Sheinbaum announced in March her administration's goal to digitize payments at gas stations and toll booths. Card payment commissions have been cut through October to encourage electronic transactions.
NetPay's system accepts card, QR code, and CoDi payments, integrating them with station control systems. FEMSA operates nearly 600 gas stations across 17 Mexican states.
The system is designed for broader use, potentially expanding to other cash-heavy sectors like restaurants and retail. FEMSA acquired NetPay in 2023 and integrated it into its fintech unit Spin.
