The FTSE 100 rose 0.47%. Germany's DAX climbed 0.78%. France's CAC 40 added 0.37%. Sterling slipped 0.19% to 1.3396 against the dollar.
Trump stood down the attack at the request of Gulf Arab allies. He instructed the Pentagon to remain ready if negotiations fail.
Iran said it submitted amended terms to end the war. No details on nuclear matters were discussed.
UK unemployment unexpectedly rose to 5% in March. Early April data pointed to a 100,000 monthly drop in payrolled employees.
