Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Transport and Communication sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.53%.
The best performers on the Nikkei 225 were Taiyo Yuden Co. (6976), up 17.00% to 13,010.00; Murata Mfg (6981), up 9.18% to 8,538.00; and TDK Corp (6762), up 5.21% to 3,796.00.
The worst performers were Furukawa Electric (5801), down 7.32% to 52,000.00; Sumitomo Metal Mining (5713), down 7.26% to 8,910.00; and Fuji Electric (6504), down 7.11% to 15,155.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1793 to 1733, with 242 unchanged.
Taiyo Yuden Co. (6976) rose to an all-time high, gaining 17.00% to 13,010.00. Murata Mfg (6981) and TDK Corp (6762) both rose to 3-year highs.
The Nikkei Volatility, measuring implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.06% to 31.14.
Crude oil for July delivery was up 2.76% to $91.13 a barrel. Brent oil for August rose 2.62% to $94.67. Gold futures for August fell 1.44% to $4,417.09 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 159.48, while EUR/JPY fell 0.15% to 185.20. The US Dollar Index was up 0.13% at 99.28.
