Nissan Motor subsidiary JATCO has abandoned plans to manufacture electric vehicle (EV) powertrains in Sunderland, UK, citing weak demand for Nissan's EVs in Europe, as reported by Nikkei.
In January 2025, JATCO announced a £48.7 million investment to produce up to 340,000 units annually of integrated EV powertrains at its Sunderland plant for Nissan.
However, later that year, Nissan, hit by declining sales in the U.S. and China, decided to cut its production plants from 17 to 10 and review powertrain facilities.
No comment was available from Nissan outside business hours.
