OpenAI is preparing to confidentially file for a U.S. initial public offering in the coming weeks, a source familiar with the matter said.

The ChatGPT maker, valued at $852 billion, aims to go public as early as September. It is working with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley on the IPO prospectus.

The move comes amid competition from Google and Anthropic, and may upstage SpaceX's expected IPO filing later this week.
