Taiwanese prosecutors suspect three individuals of successfully smuggling at least one shipment of Nvidia artificial intelligence chips to China through Japan, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.
The trio was detained by Taiwan’s Keelung District officials last week. They are suspected of falsifying documents related to the export of Super Micro Computer servers containing advanced Nvidia chips to China, violating U.S. sanctions.
Taiwan authorities seized about 50 servers from the detained trio, but at least one shipment had already passed through customs. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently called on Super Micro to improve its compliance processes.
