Seven & I Holdings announced Monday that former chairman Toshifumi Suzuki passed away on May 18 at age 93.

Suzuki is known as the father of Japan's convenience store industry.

He founded Seven-Eleven Japan in 1973 and expanded the franchise model, transforming Japan's retail sector.
