Bond.az -- Ed Gallrein, endorsed by U.S. President Donald Trump, defeated incumbent Rep. Thomas Massie on Tuesday to secure the Republican nomination for Kentucky's 4th congressional district, according to projections.
The primary vote served as a test of Trump's influence in ousting his critics. Massie, who has represented northern Kentucky since 2012, has been a vocal Trump critic during the president's second term.
His loss shows that despite broader issues, Trump's base remains strong.
