Alphabet's Waymo said Thursday it suspended its robotaxi service on U.S. freeways and paused operations in Atlanta, Georgia to update software for better performance in construction zones and flooded roads.
Waymo has been expanding robotaxi operations steadily, but recent incidents prompted the pause.
A Waymo spokesperson said: "We have temporarily paused freeway operations as we work to integrate recent technical learnings into our software."
Freeway trips were available in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Miami.
The company noted street operations remain unaffected.
In Atlanta, service offered through Uber was paused after an unoccupied Waymo robotaxi stopped in flood water on Wednesday.
This follows a recall of about 3,800 robotaxis earlier this month due to flood-related safety concerns.
