The "elf ear" aesthetic procedure is rapidly gaining popularity in Asia, especially in South Korea. Fillers and tapes that make ears more prominent are believed to make the face appear smaller and more proportionate.
According to Oxu.Az citing Hürriyet, the trend has spread to China, Japan, and South Korea, with the longest-lasting impact in South Korea.
During the procedure, hyaluronic acid fillers are injected into specific areas of the ear cartilage. This makes the ears more upright, prominent, and noticeable on both sides of the face.
A plastic surgeon in Daegu, South Korea, reports performing up to 20 "elf ear" injections on some days. The procedure is quick and results are visible in a short time.
As the trend grows, less invasive alternatives have emerged. Alongside filler injections, special tapes placed behind the ears have become popular. These tapes temporarily push the ears forward, creating a similar look.
Experts say the "elf ear" trend should not be seen merely as an ear issue. The real goal is to make the face appear smaller and more balanced.
