North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attended the commissioning ceremony of the destroyer "Choe Hon" into the Korean People's Navy and ordered the construction of two destroyers of this or a higher class every year for the next five years.
According to Oxu.Az, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported that Kim emphasized the need to produce two surface ships of the "Choe Hon" class or larger, including cruisers with a displacement of 10,000 tons, annually under the new five-year plan.
The leader also stressed the importance of strengthening the navy's combat potential, including the production of escort and special-purpose vessels, as well as the design of underwater weapons systems.
Kim Jong Un announced that a decision was made at a plenary meeting of the Workers' Party of Korea to build new naval bases for the North Korean fleet. Notably, the "Choe Hon" ship was damaged during its launch last year, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
