French President Emmanuel Macron intends to visit Syria, according to the Syrian government, citing Agence France-Presse.
Macron will become the first Western leader to visit Syria since Ahmad al-Sharaa came to power in late 2024. This will also be the first official visit by a French president since Nicolas Sarkozy's trip in 2009.
A statement from the press service of Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said Macron will travel to Damascus to strengthen bilateral relations. He will be accompanied by a delegation of investors and representatives of French companies.
It was also noted that al-Sharaa and Macron will hold a roundtable with both delegations.
According to Al Hadath TV, the first session of the People's Council (unicameral parliament) scheduled for July 6 has been postponed due to Macron's planned visit to Damascus on that day.
