India's wholesale price inflation unexpectedly rose to 8.3% in April, the highest in three-and-a-half years.
The surge was driven by rising energy costs amid the Middle East conflict.
March inflation was 3.88%. Economists had forecast 4.4%.
Fuel and power prices jumped 24.71%. Food inflation stood at 2.31%.
Manufactured product prices rose 4.62% year-on-year.
