One of the survivors from the "Natra" cargo ship struck in the Sea of Azov is Elmaddin Akhundzade from Boladi village, Lankaran.
According to Oxu.Az citing Baku TV, Elmaddin worked as an electrician on the ship and recalled the horrific moments of that night.
"We were a crew of 12 on board. At 12:05 AM, I woke up to a buzzing sound. People outside shouted that the ship was hit by a drone and everyone should gather below. A second strike came. After the third, we tried to make contact, but another strike hit. The fifth strike worsened the situation. Psychologically, we were in a very bad state. We waited for dawn to search for bodies. We found one body; the ship was shattered. After some search, we also found the captain. Then the Russians came and rescued us. They put the bodies on one boat and the survivors on another. The Russians were shocked that we managed to retrieve those bodies," Elmaddin said.
It should be noted that on June 5, two foreign cargo ships in the Sea of Azov were hit by drones. As a result, four Azerbaijani citizens died and four were injured. The 19 surviving Azerbaijani crew members from both ships were brought to the country, and the bodies of the deceased were handed over to their families.
