A heated debate erupted in Azerbaijan's parliament over a proposed law that would restrict citizens from leaving the country due to debt. Deputy Vugar Bayramov criticized the plan, arguing that it lacks a minimum threshold.
Speaking at the Milli Majlis Economic Policy Committee meeting, Bayramov highlighted that the draft law does not specify a minimum debt amount for imposing travel bans. He suggested linking it to the minimum wage to ensure proportionality.
The proposal targets participants in foreign trade and allows courts to temporarily ban their departure based on outstanding debts. However, Bayramov questioned the necessity of such measures for small amounts, like one thousand manats (approximately $60).
This issue touches on broader topics of economy and law. It remains to be seen how lawmakers will address these concerns.
