Baku TV has prepared a report from Ramana, an ancient village of Baku that once smelled of oil. Today, Ramana village is being renovated, modernized, and neighborhoods are being improved.
The famous historical site of Ramana village, Ramana Fortress, dates back to the 12th-14th centuries. Built during the Shirvanshahs period, the fortress is reported to be approximately 15 meters high.
Villagers spoke about the significance of the fortress: "It is a defensive fortress. People talk a lot about it. Even when mentioning our village, they use the word 'fortress' before the village name."
Speaking about historical buildings and monuments in Ramana village, the Novruzgulu bathhouse should also be noted. According to claims, the bathhouse was built in 1903. During the recent renovation and renewal in Ramana, this bathhouse was also restored and preserved as a historical monument.
As for the origin of the name "Ramana", residents responded: "We have always heard the village name as 'Rahmani'. Rahman is one of the names of Allah. We have heard 'Rahimli', 'Rahmani'. Later, the name was distorted. They say it comes from the word 'Roma'. Maybe the name of Rome was taken from Ramana village? Who can say?"
