The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) has grouped its urban planning recommendations into six thematic areas.
According to Oxu.Az citing Report, Ombretta Tempra, head of UN-Habitat's Land, Housing and Shelter Section, announced this at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) during the inter-sessional meeting of the Intergovernmental Open-Ended Expert Working Group on Adequate Housing for All.
She noted that these recommendations touch on key drivers for ecologically sustainable and resilient housing systems, including: integrating a rights-based approach into environmental policy and housing strategies; strengthening governance frameworks for sustainable housing; mobilizing diverse funding sources; enhancing knowledge ecosystems; promoting social awareness and behavioral transformation; and reducing environmental pressures from rapid urban expansion through integrated regional development strategies.
Tempra emphasized that the biggest gap in aligning financing with scalability arises in the context of housing resilience. The solutions promoted are often high-market-oriented solutions developed in the West, not fully suitable for all regional contexts. Promoting polycentric growth, reducing regional inequalities, and strengthening urban-rural linkages are key goals.
