Italian investment fund F2i announced it will maintain control of airport operator 2i Aeroporti after signing a term sheet with state-backed investor CDP Equity.
CDP Equity signed non-binding agreements for the potential purchase of an 8.9% stake in 2i Aeroporti, which operates six airports including Milan, Naples and Turin.
F2i stated the transaction will not alter the company's control structure.
The announcement came after Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore reported that CDP Equity's minority stake acquisition would be a first step toward gaining control. F2i denied this report.
F2i currently holds 51% of 2i Aeroporti, while Spain's Asterion owns 49%.
According to F2i's Wednesday statement, CDP Equity will acquire a 0.9% stake from F2i and an 8% stake from Asterion.
