Bond.az -- Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday canceled a scheduled vote on a resolution to end Iran war authorization without Congressional approval.
The move came two days after a similar measure advanced in the Senate.
The vote was set before lawmakers left for Memorial Day recess. House leaders postponed it until early June.
Representative Gregory Meeks said House Republican leaders likely had enough votes to pass the measure. The House had blocked three previous war powers resolutions this year.
The most recent resolution failed on a tie vote. Thursday's measure was expected to pass due to possible Republican defections.
On Tuesday, the Senate advanced a separate war powers resolution 50-47. Four Republicans and all but one Democrat voted in favor.
Democrats and some Republicans argue Trump must seek Congressional authorization for military force, citing the Constitution. They fear a prolonged conflict without clear strategy.
Most Republicans and the White House claim Trump's actions are legal under his commander-in-chief authority. The U.S. and Israel began striking Iran on February 28.
Republicans hold slim majorities in both chambers of Congress.
