Russian academic Gennady Onishchenko stated that Ebola fever will not cause a new pandemic, as the virus is not transmitted via airborne droplets.
According to the expert, Ebola lacks the potential for global spread because mass transmission requires airborne infection.
He emphasized that any infection has its own periodicity. The previous epidemic was recorded about ten years ago, and now the scenario is repeating.
He also noted that athletes from the Democratic Republic of Congo participating in the 2026 FIFA World Cup do not pose a risk of mass Ebola spread.
