The United States, Britain and Australia are working together to develop unmanned undersea vehicles (UUVs) under their trilateral AUKUS defence pact, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced.
The program falls under AUKUS’ 'Pillar Two', which focuses on advanced defense technologies including quantum computing, undersea, hypersonic, AI, and cyber capabilities.
'The signature project will deliver a suite of highly adaptable multi-mission UUV payloads designed to support undersea operations,' Hegseth said.
Formed in 2021, AUKUS aims to counter China's growing influence in the Indo-Pacific. China has called the pact dangerous, warning it could spark a regional arms race.
