Colombia's foreign ministry on Saturday accused Ecuador of "deliberate interference" in its presidential election after Ecuador's president agreed to lift tariffs following a conversation with a candidate.
Ecuadorean President Daniel Noboa said Friday his country would remove bilateral tariffs on June 1 after reaching an agreement with right-wing candidate Abelardo De La Espriella. Noboa cited a joint fight against narcoterrorism as the reason.
Colombia rejected the move as misleading, stating it would adopt countermeasures. The two countries have been embroiled in a trade dispute for months over Ecuador's tariffs on Colombia due to alleged failure to combat drug trafficking.
