South Korean Defense Minister Ahn Gyu-back said on Sunday that Seoul and Tokyo discussed a potential military logistics support agreement, cautioning that the pact remains politically sensitive.
Speaking after a meeting with Japanese counterpart Shinjiro Koizumi on the sidelines of the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Ahn said the agreement would require understanding from citizens of both nations.
The acquisition and cross-servicing agreement would allow the two U.S. allies to share military logistics like fuel, food and ammunition. However, South Korea remains cautious due to historical grievances over Japan's colonial rule.
Calls to Japan's Defense Ministry and Prime Minister's Office for comment went unanswered outside business hours.
