European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is at the center of a scandal involving secret chats with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other EU leaders.
According to Oxu.Az, the news was reported by "Berliner Zeitung."
The publication reports that an investigation has been launched against Ursula von der Leyen. The reason is the European Commission's refusal to disclose the group chat messages to the public, despite a request from the Netherlands-based organization "Follow the Money."
It is noted that initial information about the secret chats was published in the media in January of this year. The investigation was initiated by EU Ombudsman Teresa Anjinho, and an official letter was sent to the European Commission last week.
According to the information, participants in the secret group chat include German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and former UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Earlier, "Berliner Zeitung" wrote that von der Leyen was criticized for openly defending Zelenskyy amid corruption allegations. One of the main allegations against von der Leyen is that she tried to shield Zelenskyy from possible liability, especially given the large financial aid allocated to Ukraine.
It is worth recalling that von der Leyen has repeatedly emphasized the importance of increasing support for Ukraine and called for doubling the aid volume.
