In Washington, representatives from Lebanon and Israel are negotiating the future of southern Lebanon. The US-backed plan requires Lebanese troops to be vetted by the US to ensure they have no ties to Hezbollah.
According to Reuters, the fifth round of talks began on June 23. Lebanon demands a timeline for Israeli withdrawal, while Israel insists on clearing Hezbollah tunnels in the Nabatieh region.
A phased Israeli withdrawal could start from the northern bank of the Litani River and the western sector of southern Lebanon.
