Top UK doctors have compared the danger of social media for children to the effects of smoking.

According to Reuters, medical professionals urge legislators to take urgent action to prevent excessive screen time among youth.

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons has officially appealed to the government. The academy unites 23 medical societies from the UK and Ireland.

Doctors emphasize that uncontrolled use of digital technologies seriously harms physical and mental health. Over half of doctors report dealing with such harm weekly.

Discussions include banning social media for under-16s, imposing curfews on internet use, and app limits. Technology Minister Liz Kendall stated on BBC News that the government will take action.
