The Investigation Department of the Prosecutor General's Office conducted an operation at the Main Customs Office for Air Transport of the State Customs Committee. The reason was an attempt to smuggle millions worth of gold into the country.
The smugglers tried to bring gold jewelry via air transport. They were assisted by the deputy head of the shift, Ismail Aliyev.
The criminal case is under the control of the Prosecutor General's Office. Ismail Aliyev was charged under Article 206.4 of the Criminal Code and arrested.
Other employees of the office were also questioned, some were involved in the investigation. A broad preliminary investigation is ongoing.
The head of the customs office, Major General Anar Jahangirov, has not yet commented on the incident.
