The Nakhchivan Supreme Court is hearing an appeal from Aypara Asgarova (born 1986) and Firuza Seyidova (born 1987).
According to Oxu.Az citing Musavat.com, the two women filed an appeal against the verdict of the Nakhchivan Heavy Crimes Court.
In the first instance court, presided over by Judge Huseyn Mammadov, Aypara Asgarova and Firuza Seyidova were found guilty of murder with extreme cruelty for mercenary purposes by a group of persons acting in conspiracy.
According to the court's verdict, Aypara Asgarova was sentenced to 14 years and 6 months, and Firuza Seyidova to 15 years in prison. Both convicts have three children each.
According to the indictment, the incident occurred on April 19 last year in the village of Oghlangala, Sharur district. 75-year-old Zeynab Ismayilova, who lived alone, was known as a wealthy woman.
On the day of the incident, Zeynab Ismayilova came to Aypara Asgarova's house to use the washing machine. While bending to pick up her clothes, she was struck multiple times on the head from behind with a hammer and an iron crowbar.
Zeynab Ismayilova, who suffered severe injuries, was then strangled to death. To conceal the crime, the body was wrapped in a blanket and thrown into a water well in the yard.
The accused took the victim's money and jewelry and spread misinformation to cover up the incident.
The murder came to light when Aypara Asgarova's quick repayment of debts drew attention. During the search, a police dog's reaction led law enforcement to the yard.
With the participation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the body was recovered from the well and identified as Zeynab Ismayilova. According to the forensic medical examination, multiple comminuted fractures were found on the victim's skull.
