It was expected that various circles would turn a blind eye to the violations in the parliamentary elections in Armenia.
Political commentator Rashad Bayramov stated this in an interview with Oxu.Az.
He noted that as the election process approached, arrests of various individuals were carried out: "Pashinyan's government arrested people for bribing voters, tax evasion, and other reasons. This election is not just between government and opposition. Armenia has become a battleground between the West and Russia. Naturally, both official Moscow and Europe interfere in the electoral process. The EU sent a mission to Armenia to prevent interference and disinformation. On the other hand, opposition forces tied to Russia purchase Armenians from Moscow and other cities, as well as revanchist forces. An important point is that Western institutions will turn a blind eye to Pashinyan's neutralization of his rivals through administrative means, and there will be no pressure on the current government."
The political scientist emphasized that the West has created "favorable" conditions for Pashinyan: "Arrests, electoral fraud - regardless of the cost, the goal is to keep Pashinyan in power. The Prime Minister knows that even if he falsifies the election, there will be no pressure on him. This again shows external influence on elections in weak countries. The EU again demonstrates double standards. In countries where a government or candidate serves its interests, it turns a blind eye to illegalities. But it pressures countries that pursue independent policies and do not bow to anyone for national interests. This is a manifestation of EU and Western institutions' policy based on double standards."
