Often considered safe for relaxation, pools can pose serious health risks due to faulty water treatment systems, excessive chemicals, and poor sanitation.

According to Oxu.Az, infectious disease specialist Yekaterina Stepanova warns that strong odors, skin and eye irritation indicate excessive chemical concentrations.

She advises immediate showering, changing clothes, and seeking medical help to prevent harm.

The Russian expert also reminds that pool visitors risk bacterial, viral, and fungal infections, often contracted by swallowing water or touching contaminated surfaces.

Safety depends on proper filtration and chemical dosing. Anti-slip coatings are important; improperly installed drains can trap hair, limbs, or clothing.

Recommendations:

  • Use a cap, goggles, and flip-flops.
  • Do not share towels.
  • Avoid unnecessary skin contact with surfaces.
  • Shower after swimming to remove chlorine residue.
