American alpinist Tyler Andrews has set a new world record for the fastest ascent of Mount Everest using supplemental oxygen.
He reached the summit in 9 hours and 55 minutes, beating the previous record of 10 hours 56 minutes set by Lakpa Gelu of Nepal 23 years ago.
Everest's height is 8848.86 meters.
Andrews had attempted the record six times in the past two years, previously trying without oxygen.
In September 2024, he set a speed record on Manaslu (8163 m) without oxygen in 9 hours 52 minutes.
