Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova has been disqualified for four years for refusing to take a doping test.
Oxu.Az reports that this information was released by the press service of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
According to the information, Vondrousova refused to undergo an out-of-competition doping test in early December 2025.
During the hearings, the athlete explained her decision citing stress, mental health issues, and concerns about her personal safety. She stated that the doping control officer came to her home at night, but she did not open the door.
However, the independent tribunal did not find the arguments presented sufficient to overturn or reduce the penalty.
The disqualification period will be in effect until June 21, 2030.
During this time, Vondrousova is prohibited from participating in tournaments organized under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), and national associations, as well as from coaching or being involved in any capacity in these events.
It is worth noting that Marketa Vondrousova made history as the first unseeded player to win the Wimbledon women's singles title in the Open Era.
She also won a silver medal in singles at the Tokyo Olympics and has three WTA titles to her name during her career.
