Dell has unveiled its most affordable laptop, the XPS 13, starting at $699. The device aims to compete with Apple's MacBook Neo by targeting students and young professionals.

Students aged 16 and older can get the XPS 13 for $599 during the back-to-school season.

Dell COO Jeff Clarke said: "It validates the market we've been talking about. Students deserve better options at accessible price points."

The XPS 13 is Dell's thinnest and lightest model, half a pound lighter than the MacBook Neo, with a larger display.
