New Zealand's national carrier, Air New Zealand, is delaying delivery of new Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The airline aims to cut costs and restore profitability after several challenging years.
The updated plans are due to ongoing delays in Boeing's production. Two Boeing 787s expected by the end of the current financial year will be delivered later. Air New Zealand is negotiating with Boeing to postpone delivery of other ordered aircraft.
The delays have impacted the airline's cost schedule. High fuel prices, rising operational costs, and global supply chain disruptions continue to affect financial results. As part of its new strategy, Air New Zealand plans to reduce costs by approximately NZ$100 million in the next financial year.
Management expects these measures to help the company return to sustainable profitability within two years. The carrier has no intention of abandoning its international network; instead, it will focus on attracting higher-paying passengers on long-haul routes and strengthening domestic and regional services.
